How a crypto payment reaches you, start to finish
-
Curious what actually happens when a customer pays you in crypto? The path is simpler than it sounds:
- You show a payment request. A checkout page with an amount and an address (or a QR code).
- Your customer sends. From their wallet to that address.
- The network confirms. The transaction gets recorded on-chain — usually seconds to a few minutes, depending on the chain.
- It's yours. The funds land in your self-custody wallet. No platform holding it, no "pending release."
That's the whole loop. The beauty of self-custody is step 4: the money is already yours the moment it confirms — nobody stands between you and it.
We're building MotePay so steps 1–3 feel effortless, and step 4 is just true by default. Questions about any step? Ask below.
